October Computer related classes at MCC - Come join us

On behalf of all of us at MCC, I hope you all had a healthy and enjoyable summer and no matter where you traveled, that you did it safely..  I'm sure you'll agree that it's hard to believe that it's already fall and time for me to begin another new season of classes..   

As promised, we intend to repeat our entire cycle of classes from October into May 2014.  Based on  many requests we received, we modified several classes which are now 12 hrs. long/, including Internet Basics & Advanced and Email; Word including working with tables; Excel including doing Mail Merges for letters and mailing labels and of course our Picasa Photo Editing, Facebook, Twitter & other Social Media, and the very popular Creating books & other great gift ideas with your text & digital photos - All are Twelve (12) hours, so three "3" 4 hour sessions.  We also added a few new classes including one 4 hour workshop for "cloud computing" which is so popular with all of our RV'ers and brought back our popular 4 hour workshop in November to create those fun "Santa & Holiday Letters".  Cassuandra Pham will continue to teach a variety of Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android Smartphone & Tablet workshops and classes..  

Everyone in our community is welcome to take advantage of our wonderful Hodel Library on campus.. Stop by and get a library card, feel free to use our computers and bring your own paper and print what you need.  Pam Galovich and her library staff are wonderful and will answer your questions so stop by and visit them.... and remember, MCC offers many other great classes in a wide variety of fun & interesting subjects - from genealogy, health, dance, painting, genealogy, sculpting and many more all year long...Visit the Mohave Community College website: www.mohave.edu; visit our campus at 1971 Acoma Blvd in Lake Havasu.. As always, if you are thinking about taking any class at MCC, be sure to register ASAP.. We don't want you to show up for a class, thinking you'll register after the class, only to learn class was postponed due to low enrollment.. The Colorado River Computer Club meetings have resumed for the new season.  They are open to the public and held the first Tuesday of each month at the Mohave County Library - 1770 McCulloch Blvd, Room B (K-Mart parking lot area)... Next meeting is Tuesday evening, November 5th - New Users Group with the Groups Vice President, Larry LaRue, meets at 6pm and the Guest Speaker begin at 7pm..  These meetings are open to the public and very worthwhile... Visit their website: www.crccaz.com

12th Annual Spring Frenzy Reminder

Just a reminder that the 12th Annual Lake Havasu City Spring Frenzy is February 4th thru 8th, 2013 and registrations begin today, Monday-February 7th, at the Aquatic Center-so be sure to stop by...

 

For those of you who haven't experienced Spring Frenzy, it is a fun-filled week of activities and classes designed not only for fun, but for improving your quality of life as well.

 

This year Lake Havasu City Parks & Recreation is offering 192 classes featuring 14 special activities including fishing, golfing, field trip to the Bluewater Casino and to Stagecoach Trails. Happy Hour will be happening every day Monday-Thursday from 4 -  6 p.m. and on Friday is a concert.

 

MCC is again donating classrooms at campus so that Wendi Birkhead can introduce everyone to the services of our wonderful campus library and Cassaundra Pham and I will be doing a wide variety of one (1) hour introductions to many of our computer classes including how to use:

• Your Computer, Laptop, Table, eReader, iPad, iPod, iPhone, MacBook & Digital Camera
• How to use Picasa for digital photo editing; Word to create documents, tables & mail merges, Excel for spreadsheets and list managment; Movie Maker to create movies with your digital photos and other application programs;
• How to find & organizde what's on your PC;
• How to use Skype to make free phone calls worldwide; 
• How to save & make money by safely shopping & selling on line;
• How to use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest & other social networking sites and many more... 

So if you are thinking about taking a class at MCC, this is a great way to "test the waters"...

I want to apologize for the lack of postings the last several weeks - in addition to the normal hustle and bustle of the holidays, I had some major back issues and while I was back in Boston for the holidays, had no choice but to give in and have a necessary medical procedure on my back, so much to my dismay, I was unable to spend anytime on the computer (not an easy task for me) as most of you can imagine.....

But I'm pleased to say that I am finally feeling better and look forward to getting back to blogging and teaching...

Speaking of teaching we are offering lots of great classes - including some new and modified classes (in red) for those of you with laptops, tablets, eReaders, smartphones, iPads, iPhones, MacBooks and those wanting to better understand facebook, twitter and other forms of social networking...

We are continuing classes to help you find & organize what's on your pc, using Word - Excel - PowerPoint - email - your digital cameras, editing photos, creating great things with your digital photos including wonderful coffee table books & other gift ideas and movies, getting more comfortable buying and selling online-whether it's making travel arrangements, renting a vacation home or selling those things you've been accumulating in the attic and many other great topics... My Classes at MCC - Updates & Important Notices

Two very important notices:

• Apologies… We had truly hoped to arrange several new 4 hour workshops for March and April for “ALL THINGS iMac” but the gentleman who was going to teach these classs is now unable to do so.  We assure you we will continue to search for a well informed MAC person to work with you, who can answer the Apple Mac questions many of you have raised about iPads, iPods, iPhones etc. I will continue to maintain the list of names, which is now more than 40, and as soon as we find someone, we will let you know.  I'm not sure that we can do this before the end of March when many of you will be returning to “cooler climates”… But keep your fingers crossed…

•  March 11th thru March 18th, all Mohave Community College campuses, including the libraries, will be closed for “Spring Break”..

February - Classes, Spring Frenzy & Winterfest

February is here and we hope everyone is going to take advantage of some of the wonderful events all over town during this week of “Spring Frenzy” February 6th -12th”. If you aren’t sure what’s happening, just stop in at the Aquatic Center and they’ll gladly fill you in – it’s only $4 a Class or $30 for the week to learn about fishing, kayaking, how to BBQ, golfing, and lots of technology & other classes all over the city, including here at MCC…


The end of the week, Saturday & Sunday, February 11th & 12th is our annual Winterfest on McCulloch Blvd (Main St) between Acoma & Smoketree – enough vendors, food & music to satisfy everyone’s taste, so “come on down” and remember to stop by and visit the Mohave Community College Booth..

You decide: soft or hard cover, various sizes, all text, all photos or a combination of photos & text, story book or recipe book-we will also work with walgreens.com to create a book & greeting cards using your photos Bring photos to class (on camera or flash drive)

Computer Classes Begin October 4th

Greetings everyone, On behalf of all the staff at Mohave Community College, we hope you have had a wonderful summer and are ready to hit the books (well the computers anyway) again… My computer classes will begin again on Tuesday, October 4th at Mohave Community College.

We have some great classes lined up from October until May (other than a short break for the Christmas holidays) to help you become more comfortable with your computer, digital camera, using social networks, such as facebook and blogging, using your printer and lots of different software so you can create letters, newsletters, greeting cards, spreadsheets, power point slide shows, even to create your own books with or without photos…and of course lots of tips for using your email or skyping family all over the world…
