Find The Specific Info You’ve Searched For On A Website

We’ve all done it.... searched for a specific word or phrase, and when we go to the link our favorite search engine recommended, we can’t find the exact words or phrase that was in our search… but yet they showed up in the search engine list… where are they??

It’s easy to find them – just use your keyboard shortcuts…

When you are on the webpage, Hold down your CTRL KEY and the "F" KEY

  • Remember the F key, in conjunction with the CTRL key = find
So once you do this, you will see a search box appear on your monitor screen (almost always it appears at the bottom of your open window)

Now you can type in the same word or phrase into that search box and your internet browser with find and highlight each instance of that word as it appears on the page.

Then click the "next" button to allow the page to auto-scroll to the next instance of the word.

Facebook - Update your privacy settings

Despite all the bad press Facebook gets about their site and the privacy issue, one of the basic reasons there is a problem is that we, the users, don’t pay close enough attention to our privacy settings, which we should carefully and often..

As technology changes, Facebook has also changed and continually is adding more privacy options for us to use to help protect ourselves –but we have to use them…

Not sure how and what to do – then see what’s news:

Click Account in the top right corner of the Facebook window and then click Privacy settings to adjust who is capable of seeing what on your Facebook profile. We highly recommend going through all the privacy settings to verify your privacy is properly protected.

Understand, that anything that is not set to FRIENDS ONLY or FRIENDS OF FRIENDS can be seen by anyone searching on the Internet. Some good tips for most of us…

  • Under Search in Privacy settings uncheck Public Search Results. This will prevent users from finding your account and profile picture in search results such as Google

  • Under Application settings, make sure you're only allowing applications you want to have access to your information. Applications that you grant rights to can have access to your Facebook profile information.

How to use the Windows “Find” & "Search" command

The "FIND" & "SEARCH" commands are so helpful when we are working on the Internet, in emails, and especially in operating system and application programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, BookSmart or others.

We use the 'FIND" & "SEARCH" commands to quickly and easily search for:

  • within a web page that's open in your favorite browser OR
  • search for a word or phrase in a Microsoft document OR
  • use it to search for a file or folder on your computer

To access the FIND functions in the program you are working in, you can go the Menu Bar in that program, then go to Edit, and it will be in your toolbar list

OR
Use your keyboard shortcuts to find/search for text in a document or webpage - simply press the CTRL + F keys at the same time and this will open the FIND function.

OR

To access the SEARCH functions, to easily find a folder or file on your computer, go to your START menu and the SEARCH function is listed and it will then display the SEARCH dialog box to help you find what you are looking for by either name or contents

How to find a tele number, address or someone

When you are looking for a telephone number or address for someone or a company, these websites can help and they are free – my favorite is “anywho.com”

Have a telephone number and not sure who it belongs to, many of the services above offer "reverse lookup" so type in the telephone number and it will tell you who it belongs to (or if it is cell phone number it doesn' list the person... or go to google or bing an type in the telephone number...

When you need more infomation about someone (background check, personal, financial, criminal, marital status etc) to check a new employee, tenant whatever, there are investigative services that you can pay for the information..

BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET RIPPED OFF. Some sites, such as consumer-warning.org and others look official and non-biased but are actually advertising sites for companies such as “net.detective.com” – if they only list one recommendation, you know it’s an advertisement.. Do your homework - check out your local Better Business Bureau before paying anyone.....

Want to learn more about “how to investigate” someone – maybe a new employee or tenant or finding a lost relative or friend, then check out..
